Temptations Bakehouse has been a feature of the Boatshed Markets for over ten years. We pride ourselves in providing our customers with a high level of service, and a tempting array of traditional European bakehouse products. All our breads and pastries are made fresh daily under the watchful eye of Hans Sander, award winning German baker.
"In October 1989 I opened Temptations Bakehouse at the Boatshed in Jarrad Street, Cottesloe... Soon word got around that there was a German baker in town who baked good and honest bread. I used sourdough in all my breads, yeasted and not, it added so much more flavour, which was a good enough reason for me to keep using the slow fermentation method.
I used to spend nights feeding my preferments, kneading, mixing, shaping and baking, always with passion and excitement. At the forefront of thinking about breads was how to make it traditional, natural, healthy and full of flavour; something that I found to be missing in modern fast paced times.
I loved making all those special breads and cakes and it made my heart jump when I saw how people were enjoying and gobbling up the never empty sample platters. Every day, I would create new things, always according to the newest trends and seasonality. Times may have changed from those early days of baking but my belief remains the same...
